A classic biography is important, but often ends up being a long list of concert halls, roles and ensembles. And somehow, even though each of us is so different, judging by these presentation texts, we’re all some variation of a similar collection of achievements.

So this hidden page is here to give me space to share what I want to share with whomever is dissatisfied with my list of where and with whom I’ve sung (which I did try to make a bit less dry, but still…).

Where do I come from, musically?

There’s a saying in the Czech republic: “each Czech is a musician” (co čech, to muzikant). In my family, we sing at the dinner table, we sing with a wine glass in our hand (yes, there’s great wine from the Moravia!), around the campfire, both traditional and tramp songs.

One of the most touching moments I’ve experienced as a singer was during a masterclass led by the amazing soprano Dorothee Mields. It was a week in Michaelstein, a little village lost somewhere in Germany, and I had ended up there nearly by chance. We spent the week working on J. S. Bach’s cantatas, and I had the pleasure of singing the wild Wie jammern mich from BWV 170.
